She hired me to be the barista at a tech company a year ago. she stresses that her employees are like a family and that she gives people respect upon my hiring. I work 10-12 hour days running their coffee bar and doing the happy hour alone. Today she showed up to the happy hour space before i got there and surprised me when i walked in. she immediately reams me for having a dirty sweatshirt (dirty with milk from barista shift earlier in the day) tells me i must dress business casual and all black for the first time. she had gone to the coffee bar and taken photos of things she deemed too dirty and was upset i hadn’t deep cleaned the shelf for the syrups. She kept repeating that the tech company is so happy with me and has never ever complained about my work or appearance…

“Customers expect price rises because they read about inflation in the press, wrote Edwards, but companies have “clearly taken advantage of rising inflation expectations” and have increased their prices even as their costs have remained the same, adding to their bottom line.”
I’m probably quitting my job this week.
I’ve been at my current job for about 2.5 years now. Started as a seasonal temp after getting laid off due to COVID, stayed on after Christmas and moved around a little bit in the company. Last year, I applied for a management position that had opened up (which was kind of a big jump from the job I was working at the time but I had previous management experience) and I’ve been miserable pretty much since then. My new position had me directly under the CEO who is quite frankly one of the most bipolar people I’ve ever met. Working for him and working closely with him is just fucking unpleasant. And to make things worse, around the time I got promoted, one of of the other managers I was working very closely with quit (due to the CEO being a dick) and we did not have a suitable…
Normalize staying home
what do you guys think of this quote ?
The shortest job I've ever had lasted two days. I was interviewing for a role with a company when my wife was 9 months pregnant. I had made sure to mention multiple times to the hiring manager (future boss) that I will be taking one – two weeks off to care for her and our newborn. After the interview, I received a call he wanted to meet to discuss salary for the role. At the time, I was working as an on-call maintenance technician and he told me I had to come right away. I was pretty greasy, but whatever, I had a job that was okay with me leaving for a brief period so I went to his office. When I arrived, he kind of scoffed and told me this was my “surprise second interview” and he did them like this to catch people off guard and then motioned…
How WW3 will Start
For context, I have been interviewing for this company for nearly 6 weeks now. They need an engineer at a data life plant to help in controls and larger capital projects. Good things about the role is that it’s high paying and they currently do a four day work week at this location. Bad think is they for some reason have two maintenance personnel assigned as direct reports to the role. That’s not usually what a process engineer does is watch over maintenance but whatever. I’ve been working with this recruiter to go through the company. First round phone call, went well. Went on site at the main campus to interview with the other engineers, went well. I went on site to the location I’d work at, went well. I was told then (approximately 3 weeks ago now) that I’d hear feedback and next steps by the next few business…
I'll try to keep this short. My GM called me into his office today and said a bunch of rude stuff. Accused me of doing things I didn't do, etc. Asked if I'd be willing to switch departments. I don't want to switch departments. The things he said made no sense and he never watches me work. So I started to think, this evil coworker is probably saying things to him. She has gotten 2 other coworkers out of our department already and they weren't even bad, they were good workers. My GM said to bring him a “decision” (idk what that means) by Friday. I didn't think of this until now but I would so much rather switch stores. How do I go about asking? My GM clearly wants me to stay since he wants me to switch departments… I don't understand why he doesn't just fire me, the…
Fake Manager
Three times in my life, I have ascended up the ranks in a job to assistant manager/manager. All three times I was good…but not that good. And the jobs knew it. I was loyal, hard-working, on time, good with paperwork and operations…but just didn't have what the other leaders did, be it smarts, drive, the right connections, or whatever. This led me to working my ass off to fake and finesse my way through those jobs, which is an awful feeling. At manager meetings, I was like the black sheep…everyone saw through me, knew I was an imposter. Good enough to get there, not good enough to hack it long term. But fuck it…all but one of those jobs didn't pay worth a shit anyway. The one that did was in Seattle, so even my good wage wasn't good enough in that high cost of living. Now I'm in a…
