Looking for Outside Opinions

This is in CA. Power went out in the building and majority of the town Tuesday. I work in an office and the vast majority of my is obviously done via computer. Was told I can do filing for rest of day. Okay fine. Next day power hasn’t returned. Am told I can come in and file but if I didn’t show I wouldn’t be paid. This doesn’t sound right to me, so I look it up and technically non-exempt employees are to be paid even if they don’t perform during a power outage (I am indeed salaried). I mention this and have coworkers saying it wasn’t right and why do I care if I’m getting paid to just file. Am I wrong here?

Not doing so hot

Currently having a #moment at work. I was going to post this in a BPD group but this is about work. Might get fired because someone’s missing AirPods and I was the last one seen with them on camera. I didn’t steal them, but I can see the blame on my bosses faces. They think I did it and I can’t remember if I accidentally pocketed them and one of them said if I did I’d still get fired. I’ve been under so much stress these past few weeks because I’ve been promoted, and now I have to take a lot of shit. But I’ve been working my ass off and doing what I thought was a great job managing. I already knew this, but this situation really proved to me that bosses don’t actually give a shit about anyone but themselves. I’m nothing but a pawn in this game…

Wage theft, but what are my options?

I work in a call center where employees are primarily divided into three groups (A, B, C for ease of reference). For the past three months we have been on open routing where all three groups take the same calls, however there is a significant training difference between the groups and some pay difference (B gets $0.30/hr more than A, C gets $0.30/hr more than B). All three groups are taking roughly 80% calls that should be handled by agents in group C. Do I have any legal recourse through the department of labor or otherwise, or is this just common corporate manipulation and there's nothing I can do?

I told other people how much I was getting paid, and my boss threatened me.

For a little context I’m 17, and I got a new job a few weeks ago. I’m working at a grain elevator but I am in charge of their agricultural drone operations, so that means I’m getting paid more then the yard workers since it’s a management position. I guess I brought up how much I was being paid ($19) to one of them, and now reviews are happening fand my boss called me into his office. This isn’t word for word but he told me I couldn’t talk about my pay as it was causing problems as I’m getting paid more then most people when they start. He ended this with saying I could ignore him and keep doing it but he “would have to fix the problem”. Which I assume means pay me less or fire me. This is the next day now and he sent me a…

My employers want a statement from me telling them why I should still have my job. Help?

I hope this is ok to post here. I’d much rather be not working but I’d also prefer not to be homeless again. Long story short I was suspended for attendance. It hasn’t been too bad over time but within these last couple months I’ve found myself needing to call out. Which means hits. A few doctor appointments, times when I was sick, but honestly more so for my mental health. (Blue collar worker for a toxic corporation.) I take accountability but I am a good worker. I have no other write ups or blemishes and I’ve been working on getting my behavioral intermittent leave they have because it’ll allow me to call in when I need it without getting in trouble. Basically they want me to write a statement on why I should keep my job. I’m sorry to bug, but I’ve been struggling. I love the work but…

Reference questions when applying for new job

Hi all, I’m currently applying for a new role as my contract ends for my current job within a corporate company. I have had this job for 6 months but the project comes to an end at end of march. The application is asking for 2 references to cover my last 3 years of employment. I’m happy to provide my current line manager as one reference but my employer of 2 years before that was a complete narcissist, misogynistic POS. He didn’t believe me when i OD’d and had a tantrum when i gave him 4 weeks notice which is excessive as i wasn’t even on the books. My parents don’t know how much of a POS he was and are telling me to put him down as a reference but i don’t want this company to contact him at all let alone me having to google his address. I…

letting someone know they’re going to be fired?

I had an interview where I was told that they wanted to fire the person in the current role at the company (and the interviewers went on to talk horribly about this person for most of the interview – felt like I was hardly apart of the conversation, it just turned into “let's talk shit about our colleague”. And the specific reasons were ridiculous. I felt really bad for this person who is clearly working in a toxic environment and has not been given the tools to succeed). If I find who this person is can I give them a heads up that they're gonna be fired or can the company sue me or something? LOL
