Category: Antiwork
i’m a quiet, somewhat introverted person. i don’t feel the need to talk if i don’t have something to say. co-workers for some reason feel the need to approach me and say things like, “you’re so quiet”, “you’re not very talkative, huh?” and make me feel guilty for not attending work events with them. i’m here to work, not make friends. and i’ve noticed over the years that it’s only ever in office settings that people seem to have an issue with people who are comfortable with silence. i don’t get it??
So hi, I mostly lurk but I feel like most of us in retail/food service feel this pain. I work at a coffee shop in my town. Super rule heavy, everything has to be specific. In general I don’t mind this as it means all our drinks are the same no matter who makes them, everything remains clean etc. but the stupidest rule by far is we cannot change the radio station. It’s stuck on the coffee shop radio during business hours. Now if it were like an actual radio and played all sorts of songs it would be ok but it plays all the same songs all day everyday. There was one shift I counted hearing Taylor Swifts antihero 7 times, basically once per hour and I already dislike T swift but now I hear the song all the time every days . I have asked to change it…
This is not okay!
My work management wants to move us from separate offices of a few workers and put us into a big space with all of us. Absolutely no one wants to move. We will be in a much more crowded space and have minimal privacy in our cubicles. They want us to move so we can all communicate better with each other. The new office is in the same area. Things like money for relocating and new office equipment isn’t an issue. Most of us are happy with our current arrangements and don’t want to move. The union is fighting and stalling but we need help with more reasons why we shouldn’t move offices?
Minimum Wage / with Mileage?
I'm a 100% commission, W2 employee that drives my own car to sites (no mileage). Overall I make decent money, but every now and then a crap assignment where I drive 250 miles round trip to make $125. I actually lose money after mileage and 5+ hours. Does this fall under minimum wage rules? I'm in Ohio. Not sure the rules on this. I typically do a first trip out and make $1,000, but any follow up trips are peanuts.
It hit me today
I will never be able to retire. I have worked since I was 13 with a work permit washing dishes. Went off to the Navy. Took a job after and worked there until 2008 when I got laid off. I'm 54 now. Not enough in retirement funds and no chance of pension. I will die while still working past retirement age and have nothing to leave my kids to help them be better. I look in the parking lot and see Audis and Mercedes belonging to the “Administrators” and try to enjoy peanut butter crackers for lunch.
