My work is making me come in even though I am having breathing problems

As the title says. It’s a new job and business. the owner is not nice and 3 people have quit so far. Today the winds are up to 25 mph and I don’t typically have asthma but for the past year I’ve had symptoms which make me believe I might have developed asthma as an adult. I have chest pain/tightness, hurts to breath, coughing keeping me awake, sneezing, swelled eyes etc. I also have an undiagnosed disorder where I have sudden bouts of anaphylaxis and angioedema. I called into work and told them I can’t come in, I made an appt for urgent care because I can’t breathe today. My manager told me they didn’t care because they’re short staffed and I need to come in anyways. Sitting in the parking lot contemplating life rn and it hurts to breathe. I run around a lot at my job. It’s a…

New Mexico wants to reduce school funding if students have more than 10 absences (whatever the reason) even though the “Pandemic Missing: Hundreds of Thousands of Students Didn’t Go Back to School” is the reason for continued absences.

Legislators are also set to consider a bill aimed at improving attendance in New Mexico’s schools. Senate Bill 367, sponsored by Sen. Harold Pope (D-Abq.), would try to boost attendance using several methods. The bill would reduce a school’s funding if students receive 10 or more consecutive unexcused absences after they’ve been provided all appropriate interventions. This may essentially act as an incentive for schools to address the most serious forms of chronic absenteeism. NM wants to blame schools for absences: https://www.krqe.com/news/politics-government/legislature/roundhouse-roundup-environmental-rights-school-attendance/ The Pandemic Missing: Hundreds of Thousands of Students Didn’t Go Back to School: https://www.edweek.org/leadership/the-pandemic-missing-hundreds-of-thousands-of-students-didnt-go-back-to-school/2023/02 Legislators: “Let’s think up a really contemptible way to steal money from already struggling schools.”

Employer openly took tips from tip pool among other things, advice on how to proceed?

I've been working part-time at a local restaurant/bar chain, and was thinking about quitting anyway, but this has really taken it over the edge. I heard from two separate coworkers that I know and trust that the other day, the boss took a large tip that was put in the jar and used the money to comp part of the meal that a customer was unsatisfied with. That customer had given the tip, since their problem was with the kitchen and not the wait staff (a distinction I was surprised they made, but that's irrelevant). Essentially, he used tip money to save his company the expense of comping a large bill, because he decided that the problem was the fault of the wait staff (which is still very illegal). This is on top of previous rumors of wage theft, though nothing concrete from what I've been able to dig up,…

attempting for unemployment…

Im not sure if this is the right place to ask, please let me know. My husband is trying to apply for unemployment (fired from his job without just cause: boss did not like him. Personal issues or something? Not the point), we live in Missouri. We are drowning under just my income because his was over half our income. Yes he is actively trying to get a job but unfortunately so is everyone else and we live in the middle of nowhereville. The problem is the UInteract login through the Department of Labor, create new user. We get all the way through to the create security questions part and we do, and it pops back “the answer to question one is too short. Must be at least 11 characters” and it does not matter what we do. Over 11 characters. Exactly 11 characters. Change the question and answer. Reload…

Do not partake of the FREE water

My teenage son works for a major grocery store chain. The water fountain has been broken for who knows how long, so I assume that's why they put bottled water in the break room. That employees actually drink it is apparently problematic. That said, the sign specifies water being placed in the fridge, not taken out, so maybe it's all good.

Help! My managers violated labor laws, made a fellow coworker cry and today they sent me home in retaliation for reaching out to HR. (Arizona)

So last Sunday, one of my managers decided to ask another server to come in even though she had reported being sick. She told the restaurant she had a fever and they made her come in anyway. She threw up during her shift, and when she tried to go home, the manager was such a dick about it that she started bawling crying. He made her feel like shit for missing one shift because she was violently ill! I stepped in and said, “He cannot ask you to come to work if you're sick. That is illegal. He also cannot ask you for a doctor's note until you have missed three consecutive shifts.” She ended up testing positive for COVID. I was talking with other servers, and with her, about our labor rights and how the management had attempted to violate those rights. The service manager, the one who made…

Reported tip theft. Now my job is trying to force me to quit so they don’t have to pay for unemployment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Obligatory apology for format, I’m on a mobile device. Also obligatory statement that I am currently employed there, so I won’t drop the name just yet. Will post an update, including the company’s name once I leave. I agree that we should not omit names, and I fully intend to let it be known. So here it is: I am working an entry-level FOH job at a fine dining restaurant. Something really funny is going on there with the tips – I’ve recently posted about it in r/legal. They weren’t much help, though. Long story short, the servers are stealing tips from the rest of the house. Everyone knows it, but they are afraid to speak up. Anytime someone goes to the owners about it, they are quickly all but removed from the schedule. They will then hire a replacement, and give them all of your hours. This is what…

Can an employer legally ban you from after work activities?

So I've got a question from my sister in law, can an employer legally ban you from after work activities? She works at a bar as a waitress and was recently told that she can't go to a competing bar, not as in her working there but just to get a drink. If she were to go there, then they said they'd fire her. Is her employer legally able to do that? Also, we live in Texas because I know state laws are different.
