Just had the thought that there is so much pushback against work from home from large corporations and the rich due to the fact that it would allow people to actually travel, work enough online to meet their needs, then go protest for a few hours. They could travel to the big centers of commerce in the US, or the capitol, and protest there. Sounds slightly conspiratorial, but I just can't imagine that isn't at play here.

$1800 after insurance for 5 stitches! Then the absolute run around to get them removed. Is this normal having to go back to the ER for follow up, surely they would have some kind of appointment system for stuff like this. At least that’s how it would work in Australia you would go the the ER for actual emergencies and then make a follow up appointment if needed after you are discharged. More importantly it seems like it’s normal that this guy is going to remove his own stitches. Effectively performing a medical procedure on himself!
I’ve been working for a petcare company for .. almost 6 months. Monday, they started pulling my department in one by one to tell us they are “restructuring” and gave each person an ultimatum of 2 options: if they want to have or keep FT employment, they will be required to work a split shift (starting at 5:45am until unknown, clock out early afternoon for unknown amount of hours and come back for later afternoon and evening atleast til 8pm, probably later including specific department cleaning). Option 2: get moved to part time, losing benefits if you were full time. Myself and the Team Leader were the first so we could have “dibs” both of us didn’t know how to answer at the time.. but we were told we had to give an answer that night… he chose the new FT agreement, and I did too.. then Tuesday I talked…
I am currently on a 2 hour train ..
Just to punch in and attend calls on Zoom. Story of my life. To top it all of, there were strikes last week and I paid over 100 bucks in taxis just to reach the office and attend zoom calls. The final nail in the coffin, I have been here more than a month and still haven't gotten paid for the hours I worked in January. I emailed them and they told me I'd get paid next week for January and I will get paid only after the month ends so they can check how many hours I worked and pay me accordingly the next month. Have absolutely no money, completely broke, had to borrow 1000 bucks from a friend so I can pay my rent and semester fees. It's just a rant but it sucks how everyone in my office works from home but as a student they force…
This sun confuses me, there’s so much talk around work and employers suck and employees put in so much and get nothing back, followed by posts berating billionaires and company owners etc. Why is there no one trying to give themselves a bigger piece of the pie? Start your own small companies, try some side hustles build some capitol. The idea seems to be “I want to work but not for an employer who takes advantage” well be your own boss? It just seems the whole ethos of this sun seems to be to complain about the state of working and then go find another regular job.
So I will try to make this short, I work at a fairly new faculty of a university. Its a medical degree/course and I am one of the a few clinicians that supervise students in thier clinical year. I specialize in a spesific field. So the problem is my field is a fairly niche/seasonal field so I dont get to see much patients for example such as an outpatients facility might see. Today I was called in and accused of not having done any work and must make sure that my section will be seeing patients. That is calling people and asking to please help me to make sure there is patients or any other action to increase the amount of patients I see at my specialised facility. Although I have been seeing many patients recently as well as recently starting to give lectures to lower students (about 12 hours…

What happens in a top-heavy workplace?
Work in a corporate type company where I'm producing reports all day and its getting kind of sticky. The department has always been kinda top-heavy with 4 managers and 2-3 production workers, but its getting worse, we had a junior quit last year and they've been unable to find anyone to fill it.If my junior buddy leaves that'll be me on my lonesome and its already really tough with the amount of overtime. They haven't let any management staff go as the big boss is a softy and the mid managers have kids etc, plus they are doing work, its just constantly applying for jobs but not winning many. Anyway, actual question here, what happens if all the production staff leaves? I'd be reluctant but I'd have to leave if I'm the only staff member left, plus there'd be plenty of resentment towards me and I need the reference. If I…
Had a memory pop up the other day.
I work in disabilities and I used to work for a company that was… Shall I say… Less than ideal. We had a client who had a stroke and was completely paralysed on one side and completely non-verbal. They communicated by grabbing you and kissing you. It wasn't sexual in nature, it was no different to you giving someone a pat on the shoulder. As you can imagine, it made it difficult to work with them, especially when transferring them (i.e. bed to shower chair, wheelchair to toilet etc). Obviously, I didn't have an issue with the person, it was part of the job. They also really enjoyed food (I mean, why wouldn't you? You basically are stuck in a chair with no way of communicating, what else are you going to enjoy?). Because of this, they had gained a lot of weight and were probably around 120kg. They were…
