A lot of privileged boomers and etc like to say “Get out there and make something of yourself!” like there aren’t substantial socioeconomic obstacles to success

When you’re rich, success is a choice. You hire tutors. You sign up for extracurriculars. You buy more than one try at standardized tests. You pay for college applications. You pay your college expenses and get your degree. Etc. When you’re disadvantaged, you don’t even get these opportunities. You don’t get tutors. You don’t get to do extracurriculars to the full extent of your abilities. You can’t afford to take the ACT more than the one free time your school provides. You can’t afford college apps. You can’t afford an apartment, tuition, nor books and fees. If only rich people understood this. Success is a choice only for the rich and advantages. Most others never even get the same chances.

A question I was asked while out sick made me realize something…

Last couple of days I’ve called out sick from work. There was no issue getting the time off, though me being me I brought my laptop home and made it apparent I’d be reachable periodically for at least the first day. How naïve I am. Day 1 of being sick I hopped online to coordinate a project. After some time, I gave a quick update to the team on the status, and even stated I’d be offline afterwards. That was that. Day 2 I felt even worse so I was not online. However, I did notice an email. Despite my update on day 1, my boss had still reached out about an update to the project; his tone rather expectant though like he hadn’t even read the first update. It’s on brand for him, and yet it struck a nerve. Its kind of like that saying “if you give an…

Fuck all these companies dumping money into Super Bowl ads immediately after laying off thousands.

Your livelihood, the food on your table, and your healthcare does not matter to your employer. This is your reminder that we’re all just numbers.

Rihanna Back After 8 Years.

The wife and I were talking, and Twitter is a buzz about Rihanna being back after an 8 year hiatus. How come no one is talking about the idea that she could take 8 years off work, and not die from homelessness or starvation?

Why do boomers hate chairs

I'm allways reminded of the anecdote of the battered old man stood in an airport after the unification of Germany, surrounded by shops and duty-free, looking up and saying “At least under communism, you could sit down”. I run the Guest Services department in a 250 room full-service hotel in the US. One of the changes i've made in the past year since taking this role is to add stools behind the front desk. It allways seemed to me that if we wanted the Associates who work the desk to be chipper and bubbly all the time, the least we could do was stop giving them chronic foot pain. In this year, no complaints, no issues, nothing but smooth sailing, outside the occasional unconnected issue. But our new GM, well he sees these stools and its like I'm buck naked, making love to his daughter over his desk, while openly…

Quit two jobs in two months

Idk if I’m going through a midlife crisis or what. I was at my first professional real job for 12 years. I got dragged into an HR investigation and decided I couldn’t stay and quit soon after. I had lost all respect from anyone by the time the investigation was over even tho I wasn’t in the wrong. I found a new job and worked there two months then quit bc my boss was a micromanager and just completely made my life miserable. I’m now starting a new job but feel worried what if something is wrong with me. I can see why people stay at crappy jobs for so long bc this feeling of being nervous for the first day sucks.
