When I was younger, I worked landscaping for 6 or 7 years. One thing that was consistent across the few companies I worked for was guys bragging about working 12 hour days. Or sun up to sun down depending on the time of year. 60+ hour weeks some weeks. Joking around 40 hours a week is a “part-time job” It's was just sad to see so many people who seem to think their whole self-worth revolves around the amount of time they spend at work every week. A lot of the time, they were people with drug or alcohol problems who would get out of work and drink heavily the little time they had off until it was time to go back because how else are you supposed to tolerate that kind of existence. I've been working for over 20 years and I'm tired of losing my job because of nepotism. Last week I posted about finding out my employer's nephew is graduating in 6 months and may take my job. For the past 5 years, I've worked hard to grow the business I'm working for. It's disappointing needing to leave my job again because some kid is going to take my job. Was in interview waiting room for 10 minutes. Emailed recruiter. Said that I am leaving the waiting room now and to please let me know when we can reschedule. They write back and say they're in a meeting that ran late and will call me directly ASAP. I say great, I'll wait for the call. 1 minutes before the scheduled end time, I am on their scheduler rescheduling the interview for another time on their calendar that is open for another day completely. At the same time, they call me. I let it go to VM bc I've already been sitting for 30 minutes waiting, and now I have to talk for 30 minutes…? I had 7 interviews last week and 6 this week, I'm tired.
