Basically what the title says. My grandpa died while I was at work today and I left early to visit him at the hospital. Spoke with my boss about bereavement leave and because I’m not considered a full-time employee, I get nothing and would have to come to work despite everything. I work there 11-6 every day a week, because I get no benefits and I’m not salaried I don’t have rights and treatment like a human being. Boss keeps on guilt-tripping me because we’re short-staffed that he needs me to work through my grieving period. Fuck this place.

I’ve applied to London/Hybrid based role that’s advertising a role that doesn’t sound too different to my old job. They initially asked for essentially a junior with 0-2 years of experience, but I have almost 8 years. I’ve had two jobs in my life as an SDE in the UK, and I’ve been at my first job for almost 7 years where I was lead developer, but I then left and started contracting for about a year. I left my first job as for about 5 of those 7 years, I was working an average 120 hour work weeks, whilst being paid £20,000. I had received 2 pay rises during my entire time there (one of which was because I was below minimum wage). I applied to this job and was told I’ve been shortlisted as my experience at my first job aligns up perfectly with this new one. However…
A post for a friend, WI based.
I cannot update the title but this is based in the state of Wisconsin, USA. “I think my employer is doing something illegal. It has to be. How do I find out ? I drive a school bus for special education. Today I called in sick and also for tomorrow because I have a fever and a respiratory infection. I'm tired, weak and dizzy and coughing. In no fit condition to drive. They want me to get out of my sick bed, clear the snow off of it and bring it back to base. Not because they need it. They have around 20 spare buses. Plus I would need it right back later this week in a day or two. It's something they do to harass people out of calling in sick. To be clear I do not have a record of calling in sick. This is just their policy.…
I need your help to help my fiancée.
She works at a small retail store in town that is part of a chain. WEEKS ago, their bathrooms stopped working. They blocked off the bathrooms to try and keep customers from using them, but people just broke through the barrier and used it anyway. Therefore, there are piles of waste in each of them. They do not have locks apparently. The bathrooms are located right next to the break room. The smell leeches into there. So my fiancée takes her break in the hall. Customers can see her on her phone and think she’s screwing around. They ask for help and she has to work on her break as a result. She also has to walk to another store to use the bathroom. In the sleet and snow. Is there a way I can effectively call and complain / get something done about it? She is fully averse to…
For some context, my friend has been throwing up all day and has no one who can take her shift. She’s worried about being fired for it, which is bullshit because she’s a server so there is no reason she should be even allowed to work while throwing up because of like food safety and all that. She was also in the hospital last night. I was wondering if there was any action she could take if they did decide to try to fire her, am I figured this was the best sub to ask about it. Thanks.
