It’s always our fault huh?
It's like every time we are talking about real issues that effect the country, it's the fault of the worker. Nobody else!
I had to leave my position in November after having a baby. He’s too young for child care and honestly I can’t afford it even with being paid a good wage. So I took a work from home position at my husband’s company. I went from $25 an hour to being paid $12.50. I’m not being accommodated for my degree or years of experience. I presented my research to my manager and stated that I’m being underpaid by 29%. She refuses to negotiate my salary or offer a raise. I don’t earn enough to pay my bills. I’m completely stressed out. I found a document on the serve with other people’s wages. It seems that it is definitely within the budget to pay me more as there are agent making $15-17 an hour. The only other agents earning my wage are kids in high school with no experience. If I…
It feels like every topic is about retail or other high school level min wage jobs. I’ve been in investment banking for the past year and getting kind of sick of getting called on the weekends for dumb PowerPoint fixes that honestly could have waited for Monday. Even Hollywood has unions…
In Los Angeles, I've met a lot of people and some work in the film industry. Not celebrities or anything (I'll address them too) and they talk positively about their unions. Hollywood is ALL UNIONS. It might be the biggest union in the USA that doesn't call any attention to itself. Everyone from truck drivers, cameramen, and lighting guys to Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino: All union people, all working for different wages but having the security of union representation. Of course, the fees to get into a Hollywood Union are steep and it's tricky to get in but I have a friend who's a young guy making a ton of money as a crew member. Yes, they work long hours and the schedule can be weird (4 weeks on, 3 weeks off) but they get so much that it just goes to show unions are the way to go…
My employers have decided that since we're transitioning into a new company, they deserve raises since they'll be doing twice the amount of work. I work for a pretty small non-profit, having said that ALL OF US have had to do twice the amount of work we signed on for. I'm only contracted to work 40 hours of work a week, but recently I've had to work 60 hours a week and have even been called in for work ON MY DAYS OFF. But in spite of all of that, my employer has announced that the rest of us will be losing vision and dental benefits and be required to pay for health insurance out of pocket. Oh, and because we need to save money for the new company, thw rest of us will be getting pay cuts.
We live in Wisconsin and my lover signed this for her new job yesterday. How can I fuck up HR's day? What about a possible lawsuit?
