Promised raise but still nothing..
So I work for a small business owned by one guy. I just started my 6th year with this company in October. I make barely above minimum wage and I spoke with my manager about a raise. Although she said times were tough right now I am a good worker and she said she would give it to me. Although it’s probably only a dollar, I figured it’s better than nothing. A few weeks go by and I find out this manager no longer works for the company(quit or fired idk). This company is poorly managed so anything could have happened really. The last time I asked for a raise in 2020 the boss said times are tough with Covid so I actually put my two weeks in and found something at min wage for a few months until they called me to come back and gave me a raise.…
Got out of my car at work, looked around the parking lot, took a deep breath, and said , “This is a fucking joke.”
I was let go from my job back in Nov. and asked to return all my equipment immediately which I did via Fedex that week but my company car was to be picked up by a another company that would be contacting me. The response to my follow up was to verify my contact info and tell me again they would contact me by the end of the week, which to me is today. If they don’t get this car out of here today I’m ready…

Profit and Purpose
This is probably extremely obvious to this sub, but felt like this was the best places that I could get some feelings off my chest. Here goes: One of the biggest lies or pieces of propaganda fed to the working class (at least in the US culture) is the idea that a company or service can be both profitable and about helping people. These circles do not overlap. Companies that are for-profit (and most non-profits too) can never be altruistic no matter how hard they try to push their really catchy mission statement. The Primary goal will NEVER be others' welfare. It will always be second to turning profit.
