I work in hospitality and every year my team receives around $1000 from corporate for high satisfaction scores. Usually we blow it a couple restaurants and local entertainment. This year though they have usurped our normal plans and a bunch of coworkers agreed with the manager’s idea that we should visit all 9 other properties across 4 cities and I got outvoted. Im not spending 8+ hours touring and learning more about our corporate’s hospitality portfolio unpaid. My manager has even stated “it would be good to improve our knowledge of the company for sales”. They said that we’d end the night at an arcade but idk still seems F’d up to me. Could anyone recommend an excuse I can give my managers to call out but not have them worried or try to reschedule the whole thing? Maybe ask for a mental health day? Any brain storming is greatly…
Category: Antiwork
So I started this position as a mechanical engineer in a small EPC consulting firm in Italy in 2021. A couple of weeks into the job I started noticing how my boss was raising his voice at the secretary. A full month into the job I heard the first “You fu*ing c*nt, who*e, useless human being!”. Same with the blue collar workers. That became almost a daily routine. Those persons have been working in this company for the past 20 years roughly. I cannot believe that there's people out there willing to be insulted every single day of their life in exchange for money. Some of them are being paid more to take the extra heat. (I saw some of the paychecks) The first time he tried raising his voice with me I turned off my phone and stopped speaking to him. He never did it again. In fact I…

Called in sick
Today I called into my job sick. We are a small shop, so when someone calls in they're definitely missed. When I called in I told them I hadn't managed to sleep at all (insomnia issues) and I didn't feel safe operating our heavy equipment. They follow up by mentioning that one of my coworkers also wasn't there either. Thing is, the coworker that wasn't there either is someone I would cover for in events like today. Sucks that no one is there to cover for either of us, but that hardly feels like my fault. Its not like I didn't want to sleep and I don't want to kill anyone on a tow motor or driving to/from work. Why make me feel guilty? I'm frustrated they tried making me feel guilty enough to get me to come in completely disregarding any of my health in the matter.
