What is the biggest factor or factors that make some people business owners and others only those who work for the owners?

So I've been working the same place for the past 7/8months now and had a set schedule the entire time, I've now had two days in a row I show up and have been told I'm not on the schedule, obviously I'm going to start looking for a job immediately, but I'm still allowed to clock in, I don't know if I'm being forced out or what, just looking to vent and I guess see what others have done in this situation? I think a new job is a start since I've been cut two days from my normal schedule?

TLDR: Capitalist logic bullies grieving families. My wife and I both work in the same place. Last year she lost her mum after a painful battle with kidney cancer, so I took some time off to help her cope and did my best to support her. We lived together as I suggested her mum come stay with us (she was only 55, more for family support) and the plan was to buy a place with a separate little house for her to stay with us. We both came from pretty broken families so I wanted her to have her mum around. They were extremely close and behaved more like sisters sometimes, so the loss hit her pretty bad.
