I ended up getting hurt, but I'm going back because workman's comp won't pay enough to live in this state and being treated like I'm trying to fraud the system is not what I need right now. Instead , I'm going to focus on getting out of manual labor. Sick of being forced to do more labor when my job is complete.
There are hundreds and hundreds of blogs about how programming interviews suck, how they ask trivia questions or try to ask questions that only fresh graduates would know well (sort binary trees is the classical example). All these theories are correct, but Author has one more: Interviewing Turns Normal People into Grade-A AssHoles
I work breakfast at a bistro inside a hotel. Sometimes I am the cook, sometimes I am the counter attendant, one harrowing day I was alone and working both. We set up buffets and banquets as well as quick service and made to order meals. I make a regular wage not tipped wage, tips are just a bonus but we make a lot in tips and they're pooled and split based on who was there. My sister also worked at the bistro and was promoted to manager over the bistro a few months ago. That place is an absolute shitshow. She would submit orders for things we need and the GM wouldn't approve them so we were constantly out of everything. And then they would blame her for not getting the order. They refused to train her on the things she didn'tknow how to do like front desk and general…
My new manager, with the full support of the company, has recently been firing, suspending, or writing up anybody and everybody for the most bullshit reasons imaginable, and in general cultivating an extraordinarily hostile environment. I will be quitting sometime, but this won’t matter to them as I’m just a server that works currently 1 shift a week. I’ve worked here for 5 years part time (i’m also a student) and watched the company (Stella’s in Winnipeg Manitoba if you know it) gradually go downhill. They don’t do stuff that’s actually illegal generally, just very nasty, and my coworkers agree. I don’t know if unionizing is realistic because so many veteran people have quit or been fired over the last few months. Please, I want suggestions on the best ways to make the manager and company fail or at least be inconvenienced (without any legal issues on my part).
Discussing Wage
US based and trying to get a clear answer- is it illegal in any US state to discuss wage? I currently work for a non-profit and a colleague disclosed that they signed a contract asking them not to discuss their pay- I think it’s illegal to ask employees not to, right?
