So, funny story. Someone in my company recently got promoted amid a lot of people either quitting or getting laid off. To the best of my knowledge, it's the only instance I've seen of someone getting promoted over the past year or two. The person in question is pretty hard working and everyone likes her, but she has told people that she's been staying up until upwards of 1:00 am each night at home to get work done due to an ongoing website upgrade. She has not been ordered to do this; she takes it upon herself, to the best of my knowledge. Now, this is not me saying that this woman in question does not deserve her promotion. She absolutely does. But this highlights a bigger problem in that this is not a healthy standard that the company (or any company) should be holding its employees to in order…
A story about overworking yourself
I wanted to make this post because I see a lot of men (and woman too but I feel like woman generally know how to balance work/life better, not always the case though of course) who just overwork themselves. So I thought I would share a story about a experience I had a few years ago. I had a manager he would work 60-100 hours a week, insane shifts, almost no time to himself, etc. Well one day he came into work and had a stroke on the job at 32 years old. Luckily he ended up surviving and the doctors told him the stroke was caused by him overworking himself, and the stress that comes with it. I think it's important for a lot of people who are working too much to realize, that lifestyle is literally taking years off your life and will eventually cause health issues. A…
I've told this story before in my comment history but I figured I'd share here because it really showed me that companies and even people don't care about you. There was a lovely lady who used to work at the grocery store I previously worked at but she had a horrible alcohol problem. She stayed with my family and I until she got back on her feet (we assumed she was sober). She got an apartment across the street from us and wouldn’t leave our place. One day she was a no call/no show at work and my dad found her passed out drunk on the bed in the room she was staying in. We finally kicked her out since she had her own apartment and found hundreds of empty pony bottles of liquor she stashed under the bed. Fast forward a few months, a drug addict moved in with…
My fiance got hit by a car on Tuesday on his way to work. He still showed up and worked for a few hours before he went home even though he was in a lot of pain. His boss refuses to believe it and has said they will be having “a talk” about it. I am so angry on his behalf at this point. Like you guys are short staffed and he's one of your best salesmen. My fiance is looking at other jobs already. They are going to lose him because they can't get their heads out of their asses.
Terrible Interviwers
It’s funny to me how we consistently hear the “nobody wants to work” rhetoric or see commercials on hiring software so employers can find the best candidate for their respective roles, and yet over the last few months applying for jobs and doing interviews I am consistently amused by how terrible employers are at conducting interviews. Some of my favorites have been: asking you SUPER vague questions and then getting annoyed when you ask them to clarify, asking the same question multiple times with slightly different wording, asking you questions that can easily be answered on the résumé that they are looking at, or those general annoying questions like “I see you applied at our call service center, are you comfortable taking phone calls?” Curious to hear about some of your experiences as I am feeling pretty frustrated with all this, and could use a good laugh.
I have degree from a 4 year university and 10 years of B2B sales experience. Problem is I have not worked for the last 3 years (except for gig work).. After applying for about 100 jobs and getting 6 interviews I finally got a job offer. For context at my level I should be making around $130k USD (minimum). The offer is for $50k, I was just flabbergasted. I asked how much I could make with bonuses and the total is $75K. I don't know what to do with this, I told the hiring team my salary requirements after the first interview and they said “ok” and moved to the next, after the second interview they said the 50k number and I said that was not enough and they said we would be able to negotiate. After the third interview they came back with a verbal offer of the $50k,…
