My employer cut my hourly pay from $18 to $15 (minimum wage) after nearly 1 year at the job. Is there anything I can do?

Background Info: I work in hospitality as a valet/bellman at a small 5-star luxury resort in California. My job is considered entry level “at will” employment. When I was hired in November of 2021, the CA minimum wage was $14. However, I successfully negotiated $16 plus tips and gratuities because due to the smaller size of the team, I was expected to basically work 3 positions: bellman primarily, but also have the experience and flexibility to cover valet and security shifts. I was the only employee in the front office department who performed such duties. No other employee worked 3 different shifts, only me. The manager who hired me accepted the offer and requested approval from HR, who then approved the rate without issue. All of this sat well with me because my goal was to move into a full time valet position as they made more in tips than…

putting in my notice tomorrow

After 5 years in a machine shop, obtaining certifications from tech school, learning 7 different positions in the shop, I've only gotten $2 in raises. I started as a temp for $12, got hired on at $14, and now I'm sitting at $16.50. I asked for 19 back in July, and they denied it. Soon after, people started leaving and they offered me 18.50 to take on the work of one of the most stressful positions in the shop while maintaining my other duties. I told them if they can cough up the extra 50 cent, that I would do it, and they denied yet again. I haven't worked a 40 hour week since. I go in when I want, leave when I want, and they don't say shit to me because they know I'm so underpaid. My vacation time renewed in october, and in November, I scheduled 3 weeks…

Who here is willing to be honest about how they treat their underlings?

I see all these posts about people complaining about their companies, their managers etc. From stealing credit, calling them laxy, being rude, inflexible, selfish etc. So it got me thinking, there's a saying, every one of us, is a sheep; and every one of us, is a shepherd. So for all these people complaining about being treated unfairly, how many of you have just passed on that same behaviour downwards onto your underlings? Who here is willing to be honest about it? I've noticed it in my workplace, a lot of people who moan about people above them, are usually doing the same thing to people below them. Stealing their work, being lazy, rude, etc.

Company butchered shift bid

I don’t know if I’m asking for advice as much as I’m just venting. I work for a roadside assistance call center. Not AAA. Probably the largest white label company in the industry. I dispatch and manage roadside assistance calls to make sure your help gets to you. I have always loved this company. I started before the pandemic and they amazed me during the pandemic. They literally sent us all home without question, gave us computers which we now own, and most of us are still permanently WFH. Love it. During this time I also got promoted to our top of the line call management department. I make over $20/hour (in an area where the average wage is like $10) and love my work. For a call center, this company is top tier. I could see myself retiring here. Well, turns out our department has been horribly mismanaged. It’s…

some really good info here and it really connected why I’m so stressed at work. I’m calling a meeting with my boss this week over this multitasking issue and I’m sharing this with you all in hopes it gives some insight to one type of stress you may have at work and how it affects you badly.
