Got hurt and manager is now mad
So at work yesterday, I fell down a flight of stairs. I have bad legs and one has been surgically ‘fixed’ to the point it has 2 screws in it. That leg is still particularly weak. So that’s the leg that gives out on me on the stairs and down I go. I didn’t roll down, I kind of slid down them in a very painful way. Since it is a preexisting condition, I can’t claim workman’s comp so I didn’t even try. Went to the ER, got checked out to make sure nothing is broken, made sure screws are still in leg, etc. I got put on some narcotic pain meds and told to stay home today. Even got a dang note. Texted manager because my supervisor (custodian at a university) took vacation this week. She wouldn’t accept the note because it was too vague. So my wife had…
My company has a terrible habit of being way, way too nosy and personal. Last week, my grandmother died and so I submitted Bereavement for this week. Today is my first day back, and I had a question for a supervisor. She answered it, and then added at the end: “I was sorry to hear you had a death in the family. Can you share more details about what happened?” Now, my company already hates me quite a lot. And they’ve always treated me horribly. What do I respond here that mentions this shouldn’t be asked, but is also extremely polite so I can’t be taken as the bad guy again? Also note: we don’t have an HR, so I cannot send this there.
