I work at a university, and for 9 months I've been working for a professor running a research project. In that time, I've seen 9 coworkers leave our small group on bad terms, each citing the professor as being a nightmare. It's been hell. My strongest co-admin left after being humiliated to tears in a meeting, our best RA rage quit after prof berated them for not working overtime, and all that got me looking to transfer to another university department. Well I got hired by one, and my first day is Monday. But since announcing my two weeks, the boss has been on my ass over the tiniest things. I changed meeting ownership to another admin as you do when leaving a job, and the boss immediately jumps down my throat asking why I'm cancelling important meetings, not paying attention to the fact that they have been rescheduled. “Why…

Goodbye Corporation Message
I work for a corporate shipping company that will not be named. I was QA. I was above the lowest worker and the middle “management”. Today was my last day, because tomorrow I took a personal day in which I am technically still employed, till tomorrow. I wrote a massive email today that will be scheduled to be sent tonight at 11 PM. I was grateful and thankful for everyone’s attitude and resourcefulness, while I was QA for the last year. However, within the email, I gave suggestions, tips and advice on what I saw as QA. I said what was wrong, what should be addressed, what should be fixed. I asked those I was close with if they had anything they wanted to add without their names attached. I also included two peoples names, calling them out on their behavior and attitude. I CCed HR in which I had already…
Struggles of hating work
I hate working, until today I had a fairly decent paying job (much hiring that the UK average) but I am miserable working. I honestly just don't care about work. Someone asks me to do something be it a customer, manager, anyone, it goes to the bottom of my ever growing to do list and only gets done if it gets moaned about. I am starting to realise that I probably need to work for myself but whenever I talk to my friends about hating work in general most of them laugh me off and go yeah of course its work. As I alluded to above I have today been offered a settlement package to leave my job. Honestly I am not too fussed but there is part of me thats panicking and wanting to rush a get a new job, but i know that give it 6 – 12…

So a colleague of mine called into work after his start time to inform that he was going to be late for his shift starting at 8am. He had been late twice the previous week and had had a verbal warning. So upon taking the phone call, the manager on the day had said (as far as i'm aware) that he has till 08:30 to get here. My colleague had expressed that he couldnt make it before 08:30 but is on the way. Manager ultimatley turned around to tell him do not come in to work. Now this guy has some learning difficulties and takes a lot of slack from others in the workplace which he seems to take on the chin really well. Has complete undertsanding of the procedures etc to ringing in and all that. This patiicular manager has a god complex. Assistant manager should I add. I…
I’m tired of working for $10hr.
I'm a 29 year old male who is currently living with my dad in Las Vegas. I currently work as a security guard and I am basically paid around $10hr. I've been looking for other jobs but so far I'm not having much luck. It seems like most of the jobs in this city unless if you are working in the casino and gambling industries pay around $10 to $12 an hour. I apply to other jobs frequently and I'm constantly getting rejection emails. My dad sometimes suggest me other jobs like Albertsons or Hardee's but those jobs are the same amount of pay but with more responsibilities. Sure, I may be working min wage but after I do my patrols and let workers in my site I get to sit down on my ass most of the time. At those other jobs I would have to bust my ass…
“Quiet Hiring”
I'm based in the UK. I recently started work in a care home on night shifts. 7pm-7am. 12 hour shifts. No management in as it's “unsociable hours” We're supposed to get an hour break to be taken after around 2am. The break is unpaid. I've heard from coworkers that no one on night shift really takes their break as from 1am-5am there's not really a lot going on. We get the occasional couple of residents who are up and about and also have 2 hourly sleep checks in that time though. Some nights are manic, other nights are a bit more quiet. Agency staff will always take their breaks, no matter how busy or quiet it is. My coworkers always have something negative to say about this. I'd much rather be able to leave the floor for an hour and spend it doing whatever I want. Does this sound right?…
Job interview of a healthcare worker
I’ve been working as a phlebotomist / medical assistant for about 6-7 years. It astounds me how the patients assume we make a living wage or even receive top notch health insurance. My current Urgent Care offers none and would rather close the office than let any of us go over 40 hours in one week. Meanwhile the owners spend all their time on elaborate vacations. Yesterday I interviewed at a new primary care opening in town. I applied for the medical receptionist position, however I was asked in the interview, “Since you have a lot of experience running these procedures, would you be willing to help out in the back as an MA as well?” I said, “of course! I love doing the hands on stuff and I’m a team player.” Then came the compensation question. When I told them I’d like “as close to 20 hourly as possible.”…
