I work in a family owned fine dining restaurant. I've been there for 8 years now and it's the best job I've ever had. I'm 36 and have cooked/managed multiple different places. My boss (the owner) knew I was struggling and literally handed me 600 dollars cash. He then drove me to pick up the water heater I needed (in his truck) and brought it back to my house. I had a friend install it and paid him 100 bucks. The whole ordeal cost me around 575 dollars. At my restaurant December is crazy. It's all parties and lots of tip money is available. (They tip out the kitchen and dish staff) So I had been saving up only to pay him back, all the while he says don't worry about it right now. Flash forward to our end of the year clean up/party where we all eat and they…
So yesterday I quit without notifying the owners for where I worked. I resented the company and the owners themselves for reasons I won't get into, but are reasons most people here should be familiar with if you've seen the treatment retail workers usually get. One thing to note though is that the owners had been dangling a promotion over my head for two months before finally sending me the paperwork to actually get the promotion a few days ago. At that point I'd already decided to quit, but I straight up laughed at the pitiful raise they were offering for how much more work they were going to expect of me. I did tell my manager ahead of time so she could plan a schedule ahead of time, but her and I were pretty close and she had no intention of telling them either. I wake up today to…
Refracted perspective
pretty sure i would be arrested
So I was fired last week. For reasons that seem like BS. But they didn't deactivate my timecard access or my database system access. Because that was my job and Nate's job and Nate was fired 2 weeks ago. Messing with the data could definitely be hilarious, and profitable, but I know their data monitoring system well enough to know I'd get caught. But would it be illegal to submit time cards? I am the only one who can remotely clock in and out. They don't know this as they tried to disable the feature. I'm no longer employed there and I'm sure they wouldn't cut me a check. But I'd like to annoy the person who processes payroll. Would that be illegal?
Not to get into the divorce aspect too deeply, effectively I traveled a lot for work, made a ton of money doing it, which eventually killed my marriage. I was raised to think this was my purpose. My ex always worked a lot too, but has always done telework and earned a pretty equal salary. To the extent we share custody and my child support is effectively nothing. Unfortunately, our 1 child is terminally ill, and with my traditional 9-5, I basically use every hour of accrued vacation on doctor's appointments. I do the best I can, but my complaint now is that I'm not even asking for any time for myself. My problem now is the arrangement of a 9-5, we're very feast or famine, Winter is a lull period for months, but I am obligated to sir in my office chair 8 hours, regardless of my productivity. This…
