Employce Confidentiality, Non-Compete / Non-Solicit Agreement

So my company handed out new handbooks we have to sign and there’s this nice little clause that states “I will notify (redacted) promptly of all inventions, improvements, discoveries or methods relating to or useful in any business conducted by (redacted) now or in the future, which I make or discover while in employment of (redacted) assign to (redacted) all rights title and interest in such inventions, improvements discoveries and methods and any related or patent applications which pertain to business in which (redacted) is engaged, is reasonably expected to engage or in which is has previously expressed an intention to enter.” That can’t be legal right? It’s just intellectual theft.

Feeling discouraged about taking an independent contractor job that allows me more free time

I wanted a role that was less stress and less work so I could actually find time to enjoy other things in life besides work and save for an early retirement but the job market has been more challenging than expected. I ended up taking a contractor role at a large tech company through an agency (they provide my pay and benefits) and today for the first time I'm attempting to use the benefits and was surprised at how bad they are. The agency I work for is huge. They employ probably over 100k contractors so I assume they would get DECENT prices for benefits. So I enrolled in their benefits plan for 2023 and used it for the first time today. I went to the dentist for an emergency appointment and found out they're “out of network” so I have to pay for it. So I looked up my…

To comply or not comply

So I recently started a new job as a Resident Assistant working with Alzheimer's and dementia patients in a private facility. I work the afternoon shift (2-10pm). This past weekend was my first time out of training. I was on the floor with another RA and a med tech. When I was hired, the manager made a point to tell me that we couldn't clock in more than 6 minutes early and couldn't stay later than 6 minutes past our end of shift. Saturday and Sunday I didn't leave until around 10:30 because the incoming shift was late and we have to give patient reports. My question is would you leave at 10:06 regardless of a replacement or stay and eat the time?

Got berated at work for something so trivial

I had sent an email to a lady in HR regarding the unpaid lunch breaks because I found out that they deducted half hour on top of the actual break I took and conveniently let her know that the boss said we could leave early that day but still get paid the full 8 hours in case there was a misunderstanding or she thought part timers don’t get full pay on the days we leave early. Anyways, I get told off at work because the HR lady forwarded my email to her. Apparently my email triggered her and was perceived as a threat to her power. In her own words, I was “questioning her authority” and my email meant that I didn’t trust her when she said we would get full pay that day and the fact that I had to email a subordinate of hers pushed her off the…
