Sincere question. The company I work for considers anything over 30 minutes an absence even if you show up. Why would a company do this?

So I work at an amc in Illinois and the minimum wage should have gone up to 13 after the new year but they are still paying us 12 an hour. What are my rights to make sure I get paid

Okay, title is a little dramatic, but she uses emotional abuse tactics. Ex: gaslighting, she will say something to me and I will reference what she said and she will say it never happened. She’s a really bad manager, so I end up having issues and having to come to her quite frequently (paid wrong, overworked, illegally called in, etc.). I’ve stood up for myself so far, but it’s getting more difficult. She interrupts me and doesn’t let me get a word in, even when I ask specifically to not be interrupted. I was in an emotionally abusive relationship in the past, and my conversations with my manager are getting progressively more triggering. I am going to record my next meeting with her, but I’m worried about keeping my composure. Most of our confrontations have been over the phone, after which I usually burst into tears. Now hiring is such a lie. My husband has been applying for jobs since August. He has been called back by three places. He has worked 2 jobs in 23 years. One place for 9 and the other for 14. He's not a job hopper. One place he is technically employed by but they haven't called back of their own accord since Nov 15 after his training. He has called multiple times just for no answer or reply to emails or calls. He kept applying to places and got a job somewhere he's not exceptionally thrilled with but it's something. We believe businesses are still getting work done on a skeleton crew so why actually hire someone. No one wants to work? No. No one wants to hire more people despite signs. They would rather say no one wants to work.

I've been working at my current job for 5 1/2 years. I've moved up in the company over the years and have always been genuinely happy… until I needed to move. When I moved, my boss proposed the idea to start a location in the large city I moved to. Fast forward 8 months, and I'm struggling. In short, my boss lacks communication and mentorship. I'm constantly having to remind my biss about set meetings we have, or contact the boss multiple times before I get any response. My annual review was supposed to be 2 weeks ago (I had to initiate this…) but my boss never contacted me with a meeting time. Then, the business was closed for 2 weeks for the holidays. I work for a junk removal service in NYC and we are paid minimum wage + 50% profit share from all the jobs we (the junkers) do. The company is very poorly organized but it's the only place I could find to hire me and give me consistent shifts for the time being. I also am very fond of the work as I like to explore the city and help people. Unfortunately, the poor management at my job has resulted in several situations in which my paychecks do not equate to the aforementioned profit share that all of the junk removers are promised. A majority of the people at my job are college students (myself included) and we are still getting acclimated to the adult world and finances. We are withheld full-time employee benefits despite working 40+ hours a week and we have caught several operation managers manipulating our paperwork…
