So late last summer I’d been given a job rec by a friend for a major retailer. It started off with an interview link that was broken causing me to be late to a group interview. Needless to say I got combative with the recruiter about both via email, and then during the group interview when I finally got in, was very direct and forward with my answers to some manager about half my age (picture the waiter from office space with all the flair but as a manager) Not even 24 hours later they got back to me and I was told I was selected for the position…I ended up turning it down because I didn’t want to work for this retailer after that mess and shortly thereafter landed my dream job that didn’t involve retail, paid more, and didn’t have me working for some know it all half…

Understaffed
How understaffed is everyone here? Has anyone closed shop on days they were too understaffed?
*yeah, I understand that for this particular job, the responsibilities listed aren't a stupid amount of responsibilities to require. (I am actually gonna be applying for this job because the responsibilities look like stuff I'd actually enjoy other than the whole helping out customers bit, lol) But I've seen similar looking job listings for jobs requiring stupid amounts of effort. Surely it doesn't take that much effort to make a job listing at least half readable.

I just had a one week Vacation, and for two days I was sick with strep, and unfortunately I have to go back tomorrow but since everything was closed I couldn't do anything my wife and I actually wanted to do. And this is the only vacation we've had all week. Five days, two sick in bed, forced to get a doctor's note with no insurance the hell is this America?

It really pisses me off that looking for a job can make me feel worthless. I was fired mid- December. I have submitted 40 applications, and I've gotten about 15 replies… no job yet. I have 10 years of warehouse experience, 8 years on forklifts of various kinds. There are ALWAYS warehouse jobs. Excuse me! If I pass over job posts that don't list a pay rate or offer $15/hr. I hate feeling shitty, because of being rejected by shit jobs that don't pay shit.
There’s nothing else in the card… and they spelled my name wrong
The job paid well, but was mentally taxing. All I did was answer some phone calls, put in orders, and do some paperwork. That sounds great, right!? That’s what I thought. 5 months into the place, and it had me coming home and bawling as a 30 year old man. I’m supposed to be a “man” tough it out, right? That’s what they tell you. I quit drinking years ago, but this place had me the closest I’ve ever been to drinking again. Drinking for me, means the end. The culture was awful, the clients were 92% assholes, and the coworkers were mostly knuckle dragging, extreme right wing, racist assholes. I just sent in my resignation email, explaining I have health issues which prevent me from continuing employment there. Idk what I’m going to do, but I feel better. Being in a toxic environment can kind of numb your own…
