Working for myself is one of the best things I've ever done. I love when I blow my client's mind by turning down tips from them. I set the prices because I'm my own boss. I charge what I'm worth. I'm not relying on the kindness of strangers. Also I'm black and know the history of tipping in the U.S. I deserve better.

Looking for support to quit
I manage a small tea shop with 3 employees and the owner lives in another state. It’s not a small, locally owned shop. It’s franchised and is the owners only store. I have only worked there for 3 months and am 100% burnt out. I have had employee call outs that have led to 65-75 hour work weeks, not to mention the hustle leading up to Christmas. There have been numerous days where I work until 2am or 3am (we close at 6pm) because there is just so much to catch up on. Did I mention I’m on salary, a very low salary at that (sometimes it works out to me making about $11/ hour in a state with a much higher minimum wage than that)? I am halfway through earning my degree (online) and this past term was hell. I’d had a 4.0, and ended a course this term…
My employer keeps paying me late each month. I never know when I am going to get paid, although it’s often not more than a few days after when I am supposed to. The issue is that it is extra late this month and I cannot pay rent on time. What should I say to my boss about this and how should I address the matter? I live in Idaho, if this helps. This is the main info I could find: https://legislature.idaho.gov/statutesrules/idstat/Title45/T45CH6/ it sounds like I am entitled to know when I am being paid but I don’t know much more than that. Thank you in advance!
Just an observation while traveling
I'm in Chicago right now and I'm floored by the lack of traffic today. Having a union that supports your days off must be amazing! I'm from the South, where labor jobs never take off for things like “observed” holidays.
capitalism doesn’t make good art
it just uses art to make things they think people will want. you might think i mean bad pandering films but i mean problematic films like misleading documentaries or glorifying serial killers.
He laid me off to save a few bucks…
This happened about 20 years ago, but when I think about it, I still chuckle about how it all turned out. I hope this is the right place for it. It's kind of long. This was my first real job, working as a receptionist/secretary. Pay wasn't great but put a roof over my head and food in my stomach, and that was enough for me. I've always been a fast learner so although I had many duties, I got them done quickly. I had expressed to the owner (small company) that I would like to learn more of the technical side so I could maybe advance. He made vague promises but nothing ever happened. After a while I started to get bored with the job, as it was honestly too easy. I did enjoy interacting with clients, coworkers, and vendors. Heck, even filing paperwork was fun. I was good at…
