My employer just told us to “plan ahead”, and “it’s going to be a stay late; all hands on deck situation” for NYE tomorrow. The shift I work is already a 10 hour shift. Can they legally fire me for coming in and ONLY working my scheduled 10 hour shift?

I won’t get into specifics since I’m trying to stay anonymous in every way possible. But long story short, I was simply updating my manager on information I obtained that he requested. I didn’t have a full list, but I wanted to be sure he knew I was on it and I was just giving a progress report. He proceeded to then (in the company group chat for everyone to see) say things like, “what did I ask you for? Can you read? I need you to pay attention to me” and after a while of not knowing how to respond he added, “so, what did you learn from this mistake?” Like I was going to have to explain the “lesson” I learned from my “mistake” in front of everyone. Is there anything I can do about this? It made me extremely uncomfortable.
Pretty much exactly what the title is. I don’t feel I’m in the wrong, especially because I know they laid me off the last 2 weeks to not pay me stat holiday pay. It’s especially a massive fuck off because they didn’t send me an ROE to collect EI, which isn’t enough to cover bills but it helps. My new job pays me $200 more a paycheque so I don’t feel bad at all. “It’s just business” as they say.
So I work two jobs and one of those jobs is WFH occasionally. I get a call from a customer who instantly cuts me off to say we, the company messed up her account. I let her know that we do not create nor make changes to customers accounts. Omg she started screaming at me saying we put her email in her name box or something lol again I told her we did not and any wrongdoing to her account is all on her end. She yells at me to take her order. I tell her to calm down because we are both adults. She yells “take my order now!!” I just hung up lol Some people are extremely rude to the very people they want and need help from. I think there should really be a No customer service ban list for ppl like this. No way you should…
A thought I had in regards to unions.
I like to read stuff on this sub (for some reason, even though it's really depressing, lol) and was wondering about unions for retail and customer services workers. Granted I don't know the ins and outside or any legality stuff regarding unions. And Personally I'm already unionized so this is more of just me throwing a thought I had out there. But considering how these big companies punish unionization. Could we not have a (sort of) anonymous joining to a union? Then let's say after a point of so many percentages of the workforce or a certain number of workers join, then at that time, the union comes out as a legit thing to the public and have everyone try to get their fair working conditions, wages and all of that. Might be some logistical issues involved and maybe scabs would be an easier thing to be hindered upon. And…
A Failed Phone Company
Quick new years story for y'all, I used to work at a phone company turned failed entertainment company, you know, the one with the & in there name? Anyway, there was a clause in the contract we had to sign to work there saying that if we posted on social media negative things about the company they could fire you, even if you did it on your own time off the clock. This was just the tip of the iceberg, however, because at the time I worked there I watched them burn down a 4$ billion purchase that they had acquired a few years prior which was kinda fun.
So. Had my mom over and the family of one of my wife’s siblings. 6pm comes round and we hear a vehicle outside. Not sure why so stick my head out. Some poor Amazon driver is delivering. On New Year’s Eve. Wtaf? Dear Jeff Bezos: I know it’ll be a hardship but somehow I think we can survive without that speciality light bulb a day or two longer. Still trying to get my wife to stop shopping on Amazon.
My kid was assaulted at work today
And the owners state that they can’t pull the camera footage for the police to arrest this POS until Tuesday. I’m sure if they had been robbed, it would’ve been another story. Protect your kids. If they don’t need to, don’t have them work. It took everything from me to not beat the POS up myself!
