At my company holiday party they gave out awards to certain people and my supervisor was one of them. Before announcing her name they described her as “always available” and “willing to stay as long as she can to get the job done”, etc. It got me wondering – Is it really possible to “shine” at your job without staying past 8hrs?

Bosses to avoid working for in 2023
Hey everyone! I was thinking about the types of bosses that we want to avoid at all costs, and I came up with a list of names that should be red flags for anyone looking for a new job in 2023 Mr. or Mrs. “I'm Always Right”: You know the type – they think they know everything and are never wrong, no matter how much evidence you present to the contrary. Avoid these bosses like the plague, because they'll never listen to your ideas or give you credit for your hard work. Mr. or Mrs. “Micromanager”: These bosses want to be involved in every single decision, no matter how small. They'll hover over your shoulder constantly, second-guessing your every move. Working for one of these bosses is like being a puppet on a string – not fun. Mr. or Mrs. “Mood Swing”: These bosses can go from being friendly and…
So I work in a company, that I worked before but came back due to lack of employment and bills to pay, this happened a month ago. So, I started working. 3 months probation. I was sick for gastroenteritis, diarhea and vomiting. As I work in a food factory I should only get back after 48 Hours my symptoms are clear. So , I stayed sick for almost 7 days. Because of that on my probation review, my team leader gave me poor grade for attendance. I was never late to work and never missed but when I was sick I missed. Just because I was sick, I got my probation extended for more 3 months. My boss said I can't miss one day work now even if I get sick again or hit by a car probably for next 2 to 3 months. They want us to be robots,…
I have a physical disability that makes most jobs extremely difficult, if not impossible. Despite this, I still managed to get a few years of wage caging in after I graduated high school. I did landscaping, retail, a couple restaurants; and every single job, I left with the same thought in my head at the end of the day: If I have to do this for the rest of my life, I'll just kill myself right now. Just watching my life drain away, while I make pizzas for some insufferable old lady, or planting hydrangeas on some rich retirees estate for $12 an hour while I watch him take off in his plane from his HANGAR. The frivolous, wasteful reality many wealthy people live in, is just so detached from the average working class life. I'm not saying capitalism is the problem; hell compared to communist countries we…
I hate working at Nike
I’ve been working at a Nike clearance store for 2 1/2 months now. I didn’t mind the job the first month but I’ve grown to despise it. The job is so strict it feels like you’re working in a prison. You’re not allowed to have your phone on you at all, even in your pocket. You must leave your phone in the lockers or risk getting coached or even written up if a manager sees it in your pocket. You can’t chew gum on the sales floor. If you’re one minute late, it’s considered an infraction. More than one infraction a month and you get pulled into the office for a coaching. I’ve even been pulled into the office by a manager who reviewed break room camera footage because I went to use the bathroom without telling someone. Every coaching starts off with “Is everything okay at home? Is there…
Hey, so, it’s my first proper job and it’s entrance level customer service. I’ve been working here for less than 2 months. I’d like to know how to approach this if y’all have any advice. I got hired to work fulltime from the office, after starting, the job implemented a one day work from home pilot which we’re currently doing. It’s on an “if you want to” basis. I really like working from home and my ideal work week would be half from home, half from the office (5 day work week). We’re incredibly short staffed so the company decided to start offering work from home to new hires. They work from home 100% of the time other than training. Thing is, they’re getting paid less than I do and hourly while I get paid monthly and more if you calculate per hour. I also get better conditions overall as…
Whip around for our company owner
I will say if you don’t know what that means or if it’s called something else for you it’s when a card is passed around the work place and you put some money in it for a person. Now I work for this company and recently the owner had a car accident broke his arm, fractured his leg while in hospital someone came round asking for us to do a whip around for him. Now this a guy who owns a business that’s makes 100-150mlion a year and is a multimillionaire why the fuck are they trying to have us give him money that we worked for. As far as I’m aware there was only two people that said no me and one other supervisor. And people tried to call us out for it. Sorry but what did they expect
