I’m in HR and I’m pro antiwork!

Started a new role a year ago was told they have great benefits. Sick time, birthday off, get an extra holiday off, etc. Around September I was told I have 2 weeks of PTO and to take that time before it was the end of the year. I connected with my boss & he said to take the time off to enjoy myself. He insisted I do. So, I planned a vacation and took PTO. Recently, I had to call out due to being sick. Boss was totally fine, and I figured I had sick time— I get 1 hour for every 30 worked and I had never called off unexpectedly. I got my paycheck and noticed I wasn’t paid out for sick time. I asked what that was about and was told “when you took your vacation, it was actually counted as sick time. You have nothing left.” Excuse…

Holiday “gift” was taxed as payroll

My company sent out a gift card to a random store as shortly before the holiday. I checked my year end pay stub today and found that they actually deducted taxes from it and considered it part of my compensation, and not at all a gift. Wild.

“Republican George Santos facing investigations for lying about resume”

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-64113239 I'm all for lying on the CV/Resume to bag some entry level gig that has stupid hiring requirements, but running for congress? I know you're a politician and lying is supposed to be a natural talent…..but keep it off the resume for this one huh?

Leave Policy @ Walmart

Not sure if this is the right place; but I’m trying to find some info to help out my grandmother. She is 85 and works at Walmart in Virginia part time and has been there for about 5 years. A year ago she was full time but couldn’t sustain that for health reasons. On Christmas Eve she had to call out because it was 4 degrees Fahrenheit and she couldn’t safely leave the house in that weather. They want to change her 2 days leave for missing one day (Christmas Eve), which would also put her in the danger zone for calling out too many times. She’s 85 and life takes its toll, she gets sick fairly often. US labor protections don’t exist for the most part. Is there anything she can do? Any legal avenues? Is Walmart able to actually have this policy or is a local petty tyrant…
