Category: Antiwork
I recently left the warehouse industry and got an office job. They never really told me what the dress code was but it seemed to be business casual so that’s what I try to abide by. I’m not a particularly feminine person so I don’t have a lot of nice clothes (and I also don’t wear makeup just by personal preference) but I did buy some nice dress pants and blouses. Yesterday I wore what I thought was a nice shirt and a cardigan over it and some dress pants. I got hot so I took off the cardigan temporarily so I was in my shirt and dress pants. I don’t interact with anyone all day unless I run into them in the break room. I did run into the company VP yesterday while getting coffee. I guess I didn’t look nice enough for him because within an hour of…
Be jerk and lose 125% of your team.
As a military contractor, I get to work in some neat places. You know what's not neat? Just like very place else, there are asshole bosses. Sorry for the generic nature of the description below – it was a shitty workplace, but because it's military – and recent – it still requires operational security considerations. This was one site among several in this particular enterprise, with similar teams located around the US. At my job site, there were four of us contractors working on the project with a few government civilians and some military folks. It was a pretty typical setup – three contractors, each partnered with a government civilian for a particular focus area. There was also a contract Team Lead and a government civilian lead. The lead civilian, Tessa, was a real piece of work. She was the Technical Manager for the contract at our location, but she…
[CA] Fired, what next?
As I see it, I need to do the following: Apply for Unemployment Benefits Update resume & apply Apply for COBRA (continuation of medical insurance) Apply for hardship coverage: Home Mortgage 401K (current balance in excess of $5k) Some Qs on the the above: 3. COBRA – till when is the coverage of current employer valid? 4. Home MTG – what exact category can I apply under? 5. Anything I should do with the 401K account? Internet research indicates best option (in short term) is to pay the additional administrative fees (covered previously by employer) till I get my next job Also any advice on things I may not have considered but need to get ahead of, is truly appreciated. TIA
New Job Headaches
I’m starting a new job for a merchandising company that operates inside of Walmart. My onboarding from the beginning has been the worst experience I’ve had with any employer yet. From the start, I was told I’d be given a work device to access everything, a work email, and 24/7 IT support whenever I need it. Since starting, I’ve had to spend at least 3hrs on the phone with IT to access my work sites, IT were the ones to tell me my work email, how to access it and what I would need (not my manager like he should’ve), and they’ve reset other passwords numerous times. I know I haven’t just forgotten them, as I’ve kept close records of what my passwords are. I have to access at least 5 different sites, download a VPN and a couple other programs onto my PERSONAL computer (Which I I’m very much…
Not really sure if it’s anti-work. Well, maybe it is. Since, when you’re in the office alone you can pretty much do whatever you want. Which may or may not include any actual work. But just curious if anyone else really likes it too. I personally mostly enjoy it. I’m in insurance. I’ve had to cover the office by myself more times than I can count. And while I get a little annoyed that I have to come into work when no one else does, it’s kind of an opportunity to lock the doors, kick back, and just read, maybe watch some Netflix, draw. Whatever my heart desires. The phone rings, of course I pick it up and help the person. But if the phone only rings say…twice in an 8 hour day, that’s all the work I’m doing. If everyone else gets the day off and I have to…
