For context I work as a waiter for breakfast/dinner at a senior care center. I work 5 hour shifts from 6:30am to 11:30am mainly and thats what I had worked today.
My manager informed me that there was a staff appreciation thing they were doing as well as live music for the residents mainly because the news was coming and they wanted to look good on camera. I have my own moral issues with that but i digress because i just cant turn down free food truck pizza.
I helped work the live music portion, handing out food and drinks to the residents before taking a break to grab some pizza and sit down outside. After eating I ended up staying outside for another 15 minutes or so because it was a break i had earned since i had been awake since 5am and EVERY other employee was also outside eating and chatting.
My manager then pulled me inside and said that the CEO had talked to her about how i “wasn’t helping the residents” and “was just sitting down” (she stood up for me and said if i wanted a break itd be better to take it in the break room so the CEO doesnt see)
Sure, I stayed clocked in during this time but I could have left at 11:30 and not helped with the live music portion at all AND this was all during a time i was supposed to be allowed to relax
I know the cliche pizza party jokes this sub talks about but how damning to experience something similar irl. ive never felt so defeated.
