After reading a LOT of the latest posts where employers or managers or bosses threaten employees if they ask for days off, or they change their salary rate after they give notice or generally crappy work environments, I decided to use both ChatGPT and Google Bard to see if I could craft response letters or emails to some of the crap I've seen bosses do here. They are of course not legal advise, but they are an excellent resource to get clear and applicable information for specific situations.
Let me tell you, they are a spectacular resource! The main thing is to ask the question or write the prompt using natural language. Here are some examples of what I've been crafting to test their capabilities:
Q: my [State] employer is threatening to reduce my pay after I gave my 2 week notice, write an email detailing why that is illegal in [state] and Federal levels.
Q: my [State] employer is requesting proof of doctor visit or of medical attention after I took X sick days. Write an email detailing why that is a violation of my privacy rights.
Q. my [State] employer has told me that if I don't work X unpaid overtime hours, I will be terminated. Write an email detailing why that is illegal in [State] and at Federal level.
Q. my [State] employer has cut my hours down simply because I took some personal time off. Write an email detailing why that is considered retaliation and why is it illegal at both State and Federal levels.
Q: write an email detailing why is it illegal in state and federal levels for my employer to threaten me if I discuss salaries with other employees in [State]
And so on, ChatGPT generally provides a bit more context as well as citations to the actual laws (that you should double check to confirm) and the penalties for employers if they break them, while Google Bard goes into more generic detail but without citing the specific laws.
Just thought these tools could be a good resource to have when trying to counter or present a defense against crappy bosses.
