Co worker attacked me with a chair, can I press charges if the object caused injury?

Long story short, co worker got into my face unprovoked screaming and yelling, then forcibly kicked a chair into my stomach and legs, on camera and in front of witnesses. I called the cops and they took everyone's statement. Officer said this wasn't a criminal matter (huh???) then got my manager on the phone and agreed this should be handled internally. I did not ask for medical attention at first because I did not know I was injured. A few hours later my leg turned black and blue, swelled and I had intense pain, I went to the ER and they said my bone/muscle was bruised that's why it hurt to walk on. I was given pain meds, and it was wrapped in an ace bandage. I was told not to walk on it. It seems like they are trying to protect the person who attacked me and brush this…

Would i be legally able to press charges? Thank you for any advice
