Company denied my request for hybrid work

Bit of a rant… My husband and I just bought a house and finished moving in this weekend. I lived and still work in a city and now we moved to one of the towns outside the city. My job is in an office, it can be done 95-100% remotely. So I don't have my license yet, I'm working on it, I have a permit, I am signed up for more lessons. I use public transport or walk. Well, my new suburban paradise is a 45 min walk from public transport. It's a 12 min car ride from work, but about 2 hours with bus and walking. My office (small around 40 ppl) is run by old fashioned folks, still I have 2 coworkers who moved out of state and are fully remote, one coworker who lives an hour away who is fully remote and 3 coworkers with hybrid schedules.…

Bit of a rant…

My husband and I just bought a house and finished moving in this weekend.

My office (small around 40 ppl) is run by old fashioned folks, still I have 2 coworkers who moved out of state and are fully remote, one coworker who lives an hour away who is fully remote and 3 coworkers with hybrid schedules.

So I ask my boss if I could have a hybrid schedule for 3 months to resolve this transportation issue. Immediately denied. Not even one day a week.

The coworker who's an hour away and works remote? Well his work often requires several people to fix it/discuss it. He's also often MIA, responding from his cellphone and not answering his desk phone even though he works from home. I'm one of the fixers. I could call or email the other fixers, but no, our mgmt thinks these convos must happen in person. It's not a security concern, the boomers just like talking in person.

Half of the sales team takes super long lunches, are always late, fuck around for hours talking about golfing.

I know getting to work is my responsibility, but it would cost them nothing to let me work from home for 1-2 days a week. Just one day would be 20% of my work week I wouldn't have to worry about.

The worst part is I'm too scared to put my foot down and just not show up. I need the money to pay my bills. Screw work, screw management
