In the scheme of some of the stories shared in this sub, it isn't the worst thing they could do but it isn't a great look. It was just announced that they are very excited to gather everyone in the sales division from all over for 4 days of learning and development and the dates will include Halloween. It would seem that they have immediately received a lot of feedback about this scheduling and followed-up the announcement with an email saying they understand that many people are not thrilled with the conflict and that the head of the organization has young children that they too will be missing the holiday with for this event but that it had to be done at this time in order to save on costs to be able to put on the event.
While for me I'm not going to be missing anything as I largely ignore Halloween, but I know that for parents of young children it can be a lot of fun making memories together and this feels like the archetypal event that a parent misses because of work and regrets that they choose work obligations over family experiences. Feels like a shitty thing for a large company to do to so many of its employees and makes me see the company & organization in a new unfavorable light.
