This is my first post in this subreddit so please bear with me.
I live in Louisiana and I was visiting my mom in Chicago for the holidays. I currently work 2 jobs (one of which is a part time job that pays $9/hr) My mother asked me how much this particular job pays and I told her. She was so shocked with disbelief. She then asks “how do you afford rent with that?” And went on to tell my entire family (which embarrassed the fuck out of me)
That conversation made me realize that I am anti work. Moving forward I don’t want to work for an employer who thinks I’m only worth $9.
It also made me realize that people her age (50s and 60s) are so unaware of cost of living, minimum wage, rent etc. how can we change this?
