Coworker constantly off sick every other week, bothering me

I work in the UK and my colleague in his early 30s constantly feels the need to take time off work. He is type 1 diabetic but I’ve never known anyone to take such time off randomly then he does. The amount of excuses, “had a wasp sting….”change of meds effecting me” is unreal. I want to raise this with my manager so she can speak to HR, I work in a very small team and don’t want to create friction between us but have no choice. What’s the best way to tackle this with my manager? Will HR do anything or sight equality act and brush in under the carpet?
