Dad had to force new hire to leave jobsite for child’s birth.

My dad told me this story today (thursday). Dad's a commercial plumber for a larger locally owned company and had a new guy start on Monday, but first day on dad's jobsite today Dad found out guys girlfriend was having a c section at 230pm today at 9am. Dad had to bully him to leave and he finally did at 11am but the guy swore that he would be back tomorrow. Again he had to force and kinda be a jerk to him to make him understand that he needed to be there for his partner. The guy was so worried about his job THAT HE WAS WILLING TO MISS THE BIRTH OF HIS CHILD AND HER FIRST FEW DAYS. Dude felt like he needed to keep that a secret or else he'd be penalized. Maybe thats how other places do things but not theirs. It blew my mind when…

Dude felt like he needed to keep that a secret or else he'd be penalized. Maybe thats how other places do things but not theirs. It blew my mind when dad told me that. what has happened in this society that folks rationalize having to miss the birth of their child for work. I know for a fact there was a conversation in that house about him missing it, probably multiple. “Honey I just started this job, I have to be there, I can't work 3 days then ask for time off.” I'm so glad another worker told my dad or else he would've had no clue. Congrats on your new baby girl.
