Hi all, first post here and it’s not going to be cheerful.
I lead the communications office for a government agency and I’ve been in the role for coming on five years. Despite my impostor syndrome and some rocky internal issues not of my making, I feel like I’ve done a pretty decent job and I’ve had nothing but positive evaluations.
However, today, my supervisor came and told me I was having my duties narrowed and that they needed to make me less prominent as there was a snafu situation recently that their bosses are determined to make me a scapegoat for.
My salary isn’t changing and I’ll have plenty to do, but it’s pretty clearly a demotion in all but name. And it’s really vague what this will look like for me long-term.
I have really liked working for my supervisor and she is trying to keep me whole but I hate the idea of someone doing me a favor. I asked that if I’m not getting the job done they should just tell me but they wouldn’t really answer me.
This is clearly a sign for me to start looking elsewhere, right?
