Dictatorship

My husband and I had a conversation today that I want to share a bit. We were talking about Putin and the invasion of Ukraine. And he started comparing his CEO to Putin. I was taken back a bit and thought it was over the top a bit at first. But then he made some points that made sense. His company is in the process of being sold. Right up until the sale was announced, the CEO was insisting there were no plans to sell (the west is crazy, we aren’t going to invade Ukraine!) The company has a chat and they were encouraged to post questions by the CEO and promised he would follow up. Recently, there is evidence that the real questions are being deleted and all that is appearing on the feed is praise for how great the company is.

But the main point that got me is that the employees have no protection from the company. If they protest or complain about how their circumstances are, they get fired (at least not arrested, right?). And the company is toxic. Raises are around 3% generally. If you complain about the raises, you are told that you should be focusing on your career, not how much money you make. Practically every position change is considered a lateral move so no increase in pay for the most part.

What frustrates me most about the whole thing is that he won’t look for a new job because he’s convinced that he’d have to start over at entry level pay, which we can’t live on. Five kids and a house payment. I think he’s mistaken but I’ve been a stay at home mom for 9 years, what do I know about the workforce.
