Did I get denied a potential job because I asked if a 2-minute video of myself before an interview was mandatory?

I applied for a job and not long after received an email directly from their IT Director. Email said that he liked my resume and wanted to know more about me through a two minute video of myself discussing my hobbies. I emailed him and said thank you for replying and asked if the two minute video was mandatory or optional. I then received an email stating they have decided to go another way. This whole transaction was in a period of 20 minutes. This seems weird and like a way to discriminate. I have a job, but if I didn’t I would have probably done the video if I need to. Is this normal?
