I quit my job in February, and have since signed up with a couple staffing agencies as well as putting in lots of resumes.
I got a call from one of the agencies Thursday before last, saying they had a 12 week position for me starting the following Monday. On Friday I went and got my background check(it was for a government office) and took it to the agency.
On Monday I showed up at 830, met with HR, did some paperwork, and then met the assistant manager who took me to my office. On the way up, he says “we didn't know you were coming, so we don't have a computer for you to use yet. I'll get one for you asap. ”
I was like, ummm ok? So I'm just supposed to wait? He says yeah, and leaves me in this office, where I was alone. This was at about 930.
So, I waited… and waited, and waited some more. Played a lot of games on my phone. Around noon, I was getting antsy. I was bored.
I called the guy at 1215, and told him that I was just gonna head out. He says, well, I told you it would take a lil time…
But nearly 3 hours, and no checking in with me, no telling me where the break room was, no giving me some shit work to keep me busy.
I called the agency, explained the situation. She says that my name was 1st on the list (oh yeah, there were 4 others from the same agency for different positions to start that day) and she doesn't know why they weren't ready for me.
I opted to leave, made sure that my time was recorded, and left at 1245.
Sad that this government office was so disorganized. The job search continues.
Sigh.
