Small rant: It's been hard navigating life as a cancer patient needing treatment, but living in a country without free healthcare, plus carrying a hundred other medical conditions.
I lost multiple jobs because of my health. I told my first employer out of college I may be experiencing medical issues, and my work slowed down to a point where they had to let me go. The next job I was glad to get fired from, I was about to go into surgery for my cancer, but the recruitment agency told me the client no longer needed my services, because an employee came back from vacation. J3, I told my employer I had to leave 2 hours early for a doctor's appointment, but I didn't disclose the specifics. This shook him so badly, he had to drag me and several other people into a meeting about it, telling me seeing a doctor this early on the job is bad for business. They approved it and I went to the doctors anyway, because my job < my health. The same week, I was let go, and my boss told me untrue things about my performance. J4 was their bigger, direct competitor and I thought I found myself at a safe company. Well after 4 months, I revealed I had cancer and asked to work from home for one week. The month after, I was placed on the PIP. And after that there was just a whole bunch of nonsense that led me to realize how poorly managed my department was and got let go 2 months later.
It's made me so anxious, that I don't think I'm going to use my PTO anymore at my next job. Luckily, I don't have anymore serious medical procedures that I need this year (hopefully).
