Doctor’s note for one unpaid sick day?

I have a chronic health condition that my boss is aware of. I was paid late and therefore unable to refill my medication on time, and although I managed to work for a few days without it, yesterday it finally caught up to me and I couldn't breathe. This is a minimum wage job. I don't mind the work itself but every day I'm humiliated and belittled in front of my coworkers by my supervisor (not the boss). Being paid late and asked to provide proof of a chronic illness has brought me to a breaking point and I'm tempted to quit. Am I overreacting to the situation?
