Does abolishing jobs involve rethinking the nuclear family?

Been listening to a few podcasts about extended family arrangements, including communal living with non-blood relatives to help co-parent. They made the interesting point that how we think about family (living only with one partner and your kids) is a very fragile arrangement where you have no time, no support, and have to outsource (ie pay for) all the support and affection that parents used to get from their extended families. Yet, in America, if someone lives with their parents after they get married and have kids, they are a loser to the highest order. Thoughts?
