Not including people who work for themselves or consult.
I notice the biggest gripe I have with most jobs is the need to be “parked in front of a computer between my scheduled hours” even if nothing needs my attention.
My job monitors this via use of teams with an auto time out of 5 mins if the mouse hasn’t been moved.
5 mins isn’t enough time to really do ANYTHING away from the computer.
Book out personal meetings to appear ‘busy’ pretty regularly so you don’t go idle? You’ll end up having a one on one with management to explain. They monitor your status and what your workload is if you aren’t “green” (available) consistently.
Some people were refusing to use the chat software at first so they were getting away with it but it’s been pretty enforced where now everyone has to have it on.
I have heard of people with these jobs where they can sign off in the middle of the day and come back later…. What kind of work do you do? Are your hours tracked? Online status monitored?
Maybe I’ve just been unlucky with micro management…
