Does anyone know if its illegal to straight up lie about pay/commission upon accepting employment (either in state of North Carolina or federally)?

Wife accepted a much lower paying position within the company she works at with the understanding that she would eventually get commission along with her hourly pay, basically trying to sacrifice financially for long term higher earning. (coworker who was hired to said position with her was informed the exact same thing as well) but it turns out that the employer withheld information regarding the commission and pay situation which has obviously resulted in financial loss for us that would not have taken place if she was informed correctly about the pay. Are there any laws against this, what can we do about this situation?
