Does it make sense to go back to school to try to get more money per hour of work?

I'm thinking of going back to school to become a radiation therapist. I'm a lab technician now that makes around 36k a year. A radiation therapist seem to make around 60-70k a year. The 2 year program near my moms place will cost at least 60-70k over the whole kit and kaboodle. With recent events, 36k barely gives me a nostril to stick out of the water in Chicago. So I have to make a move before another “once in a lifetime event” swallows me up. I can't tell if I'm just going to end up just as miserable as I am now, a 4 year science degree that got me nowhere that had 30k worth of debt and a minimum wage job when I got out in 2010.
