Don’t do your best – Do your average

So I've been in IT for like two decades almost now. I've interviewed a lot of people and been interviewed by a lot of people. I've been in business for a long time, ranging from healthcare to loan servicing to rental to banking and lots of stuff in between. I don't want to know what your “best” is – I want to know what your average is I've been thinking about starting a business and what that would look like. What am I looking for from my employees? Average. Why? Because I can never expect you to give me your best long term. I want to know who has the best average over time. I don't know how to conclude that from interviews, but what I do know FOR SURE is that the current practice only highlights your best, not your average over time. And that's a fallacy of business,…
