Double Bank Holiday Pay?

Does anyone else feel obligated to work on the bank holiday or holidays where there is double pay even if your unwell? Background- I work as a casual host because it’s the only job that won’t question me for doctors notes or make me apologise every time because I suffer from a chronic illness that is prone to random, painful and frequent flare ups, and will sometimes need to call in sick, swap shifts, or give them away to my colleagues. And sometimes this will be a bank holiday where we get double pay. While I definitely need the money-the flare ups can be immobilising like today. When I come into work my colleagues will complain that I gave my shift away or insist that I was silly to give away work or money when the pay is double.
