I work at a plasma donation center.
They're kind of notorious for getting hot and heavy every once in awhile.
We've had donors call in death threats, hide in the bushes and try to attack female employees, punch holes in windows when they couldn't donate (for their own safety!) …
Before I worked here, there was a security guard apparently. Months ago we had a meeting about safety and employees talked about these death threats etc.
Management just said to walk out together. The company doesn't want to pay a security guard at this time.
Not everyone clocks out at the same time?!
Mostly, women work here and are harassed on the daily (that's what the bushes guy was about).
Today, an employee was donating before his shift started. Lines were tight – he bumped into the guy behind him (following verified by cameras and people in line)
After bumping the man in line, he (the donor) yelled like he was under attack, threw the employee against the wall after decking him in the face, and screamed “you will not touch me! Don't you ever touch me!”
All the men on the floor, including me, surrounded the event and got the donor to let go. Blood all over the wall. He was bullied out by our group and isn't allowed at any of our locations. We contacted all the other brands of centers with his info – he can't go to them ever either.
I'm just worried.
I talked to the guy and I'm trying to convince him to talk to… Anyone. Press charges, file some kind of incident report. I know the bosses aren't going to want to make a fuss – they always gaslight about safety concerns.
I just don't feel safe.
If one of us are attacked, all of us are!
I talked to the general manager about it so I'm hoping it goes somewhere. If he doesn't file something I feel like I need to.
I'm looking for a new job.
Dunno exactly where to go (Oklahoma) since I know HR isn't our friend. Maybe the threat of a lawsuit or something here might wake them up though – this wasn't a threat, destruction of property… A donor attacked and employee and I just want these guys to wake up and see that we need some security around here.
Thanks for listening/reading.
Another story about management blowing off security issues. I'm hoping they don't gaslight this guy like they do when the ladies are harassed.
I'll probably know by the end of the day or within a few days what will be done about it.
I'm just super stressed about this.
