Basically there's a curve with who I made food for, you're either working in awful conditions for awful pay or you're paid really well and could totally afford to order lunch every day but it's provided for you anyway
You can also be a student there for something educational or in employee orientation so they are trying to butter you up for disappointment
The EMTs were the only ones that got free lunch daily and some upper crust office people got free lunch a few times a week
Once I asked a nurse friend who's job sucked so much that they regularly got tenderloin sliders at 6:30am and she gave me a couple potential job acronyms
They also gave no regard for common allergens or dietary restrictions for the low end of the spectrum but of course the high end of the spectrum got all their dietary needs catered to, they could even get a plant based chicken substitute for the protein on their salads
What also bothered me was the NPCs I worked with who were completely unbothered by a corporation that rakes in billions and could totally actually do something about the shit conditions a lot of their employees work in and give them raises but instead they pay us to make them sundae bars and tenderloin sliders
A couple of my managers would take extra shifts in other departments because one of them calmly successfully paid bad 40K in medical debt to his job and the other was a manager and with the company for 10 years and still couldn't afford a house with her partner
I lasted 6 months before I took an entry level job at a quick lube place because it was 2021 when I left and I wasn't ready to go back to a regular cooking job
