I’ve never posted here before, always been a lurker so apologies for any issues. This will be a rant.
This Tuesday at 4:30 pm I received an email from my employer that I was overpaid in the pay period right before Christmas and that the recouping would be taken out of this next paycheck (this Friday) No explanation in what was, no total and no itemization, no one to reach out or call for questions just the general HR website. The paycheck in question was higher than usual but I worked a TON of overtime before the holidays so didn't think anything of it.
It took me getting my management involved plus messaging the auditor directly on Teams to get an answer today. At first I was told it would be about 75% taken out…but no scratch that! It was actually 99%! Quite literally nearly HALF of what I make in a month. When I tell y’all I burst into tears on hearing this amount…crying to this auditor about how the hell am I supposed to pay my bills this month when you’re taking half of my salary, right after the holidays, and right at the beginning of the new year for something that was not my fault and was theirs for not catching how their software messed up. This man offered to split it up over two pay periods….so literally the same amount in the same month so no help at all. He offered to talk to management about splitting it up over multiple pay periods to make it easier to swallow, but told me the original two period option was ONLY being offered to people who expressed how this would be a financial burden. So I guess fuck everyone who didn’t think much of that email right? Or who may be out sick or anything else that would prevent them from addressing this in the approximately 48 hours they gave as notice for this? Not to mention this only affected hourly employees and let me tell y’all we do not make a lot of money.
I am so beyond stressed because of this, this is a multi-BILLION organization. That decided to let those affected know in the middle of the week that their pay would be affected two days later without any recourse or options or information on what the fuck was going on. For money they would never even miss but will prevent me from covering my monthly costs without dipping into savings. And I know I am a fortunate one to have any savings at all. Fuck these apathetic greedy uncaring bastards.
