So my boss (who I adore) recently approached me and said that she signed me up along with 15-20 others who I work with for this leadership program. Something about helping you develop as a leader which I'm not exactly interested in (I do not want the headache of people working under me). But I appreciate the gesture and was open to hearing what it was about.
So we have the introductory meeting with these people and its this husband and wife duo. They have us fill out these different “on a scale of 1 to 10” questions to see where our strengths and weaknesses are. OK sure.
But then they send these “Hogan Assessments” which are more elaborate questions about your personality. Here's a link for reference: Hogan Assessments
So I find this to have a bit of a “multi level marketing” vibe to it. The wife of this duo talked about how she quit her HR job years ago and let herself be free and she does these yoga retreats in these beautiful places. I assume she gets people to pay a bunch of money to join her on it. She has the term “life coach” in her LinkedIn bio which also sets off my BS meter.
I'm a Technical Sales Engineer at a small company and enjoy what I do. But I am fully aware that I am a big cynic and often roll my eyes at all of this team bonding/professional development stuff. Something feels really off to me about all of this. I know this might not be enough detail to really give a good response but I was just curious as to what the general public of Reddit would have to say about this. Should I just go along with it and fill out all these personality tests to help them “coach” me?
